| Eddie Van Zyl was born in South Africa and spent his early surfing years growing up in and around Durban, surfing the rugged Dolphin Coast. The Natal coastline is filled with powerful Beach Breaks and endless Point Breaks combined with an abundance of swell. It was this powerful surf that led to countless broken boards and fueled the desire to design and shape boards to challenge the demanding conditions that Africa has to offer. | |||||||||||
| After arriving in the United States, Eddie began working with the Brewer family and started running the Mainland Brewer Surfboard sales and production. | |||||||||||
| "I had a unique opportunity to follow in the footsteps of great shapers such as Gerry Lopez, Owl Chapman, Pat Rawson and Gary Linden to mention a few. I began honing my shaping skills and learning from Master Shaper Dick Brewer by studying his shapes and producing boards for mainland Surf shops and customers.. This taught me a great deal about surfboard design, which would have taken me a lifetime to achieve. |
